Nuclear Technology

U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)
The Department of Energy, through the Fusion Energy Sciences Office in the Office of Science seeks to advance plasma science and fusion science and technology. The department’s programs emphasize the underlying basic research in plasma and fusion sciences, with the long-term goal of harnessing fusion as a viable energy source.

U.S. – ITER
An unprecedented international collaboration of scientists and engineers has performed    needed research and development and designed a burning plasma experiment called        ITER. The fusion power produced by ITER will be 10 times greater than the external     power delivered to heat the plasma. The United States has joined the other ITER          partners in negotiations for construction of this project, whose mission is to demonstrate   the scientific and technological feasibility of fusion power.

New 'HYPERION' MINI NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS-POWERS 20,000 HOMES
Invented at the famed Los Alamos National Laboratory, Hyperion small modular power reactors make all the benefits of safe, clean nuclear power available for remote locations. For industrial and community applications, Hyperion offers reliable energy with no greenhouse gas emissions. Hyperion power is also cheaper than fossil fuels and, when you consider the cost of land and materials, watt to watt, Hyperion’s innovative energy technology is even more affordable than many developing “alternative” energy technologies.
